There are several different fabrics used in the manufacturing of luxury bath towels ranging from Egyptian cotton to organic bamboo and hemp materials. Many new types of fabrics are also being introduced into the market such as Modal which is gleaned from the cellulose found in beech trees. Many of these newer fabrics are considered to be environmentally friendly, having minimal impact on the ecosystem. Most bath towels though are made in such a way that a series of small loops form the body of the fabric and this is known as terry towelling.
Terry towelling is a traditional fabric and probably the most recognisable of all of the towel cloths. It is a hard-wearing material and is an ideal for making of bathroom towels of both standard and uxurious quality, as it is highly absorbent. In order to produce and make terry towelling material, special weaving looms are used to create the loops. The absorbency of the towelling usually depends on the length of these loops, the longest varieties, used for luxury bath towels, being the most porous.
Terry towelling is also easier to launder than many other alternative bathroom towel fabrics. Even the highest quality varieties can usually be laundered at home in a standard washing machine. These towels also need no pressing and if any ironing is required, this causes no damage to the textiles. As a hard working household tool, a bath towel made from terry towelling can be bleached and coloured without any harm coming to the fabric.
