Breastfeeding is a completely natural act between mother and baby. But, in spite of this, some mothers can feel uncomfortable about breastfeeding in public. While it might feel a little strange at first, it is possible to breastfeed discreetly in public without showing any flesh. Here are some tips:
Wear Nursing Clothes
While some women choose to continue wearing their maternity clothes for the few months after they’ve given birth, they don’t allow for easy access when nursing a baby. Dedicated nursing wear allows mothers to easily access their breasts for feeding, and the flattering designs help them retain their modesty when nursing in public. Nursing mothers can also wear layers (for example, a loose cardigan over a nursing top) for added privacy.
Wear a Nursing Bra
Nursing bras have drop down cups that allows a mother to breastfeed her baby without having to remove her bra. A good nursing bra should be easy to unfasten with one hand when holding a baby. When combined with a breastfeeding top or dress, a nursing bra can make feeding much quicker, simpler and more discreet.
Use a Blanket
Even with a nursing top and bra, some mothers can still sometimes feel exposed when breastfeeding in public. In these cases, a blanket can be used to cover mother and baby during feedings. However, babies can have a tendency to pull nursing blankets down at first. It can be a good idea to use a nursing blanket at home until they are accustomed to it.
