Perhaps the only thing to richer than diamonds is their history. Diamonds go back since the dawn of time, and are formed in the belly of stars. They have lain dormant until mankind discovered them, and began to revere and appreciate them in profound and mysterious ways. Did you know that all diamonds where found in India right up until the 18th century? These days the bulk of diamonds are found in Africa, and many African nations see diamond export as a main income stream.
Further back into ancient history, and the Greeks and Romans recognized the near-supernatural power of diamond stones. The Greeks call diamonds “adamas,” which means invincible, hinting at the real durability of diamond stones. The Romans similarly recognized the power of diamonds, and saw them as the tears of the gods.
In the 15th century diamonds where considered to be exclusively royal, and became associated with kings. In fact, kings where the only people allowed to possess diamonds for a while (and probably the only people who could afford them anyway.)
Whilst diamond rings and wedding rings made from diamonds are now readily available, they still have a dimension of quality and beauty that is unmatched. They are powerful symbols of ideas of steadfastness, faithfulness and love, and so the perfect stone to adorn wedding jewelry.
If you like diamonds, you might be surprised by the modern day availability and even affordability of these precious stones.
