Some General Rules on Wearing Black Tie
Different variations on the black tie include wearing midnight blue instead of black, which also looks captivating in low lighting. The classic look is emphasized by the powerful white V produced at the chest when the waist is covered and only the top of the white shirt can be seen. This style improves the shape of the figure and captures the quintessential smart and formal look of this dress-code. Cummerbunds, a closed jacket and waistcoats can be used to cover up the chest.
Where Black Tie Originated
The black tie is an Anglo-American costume which originated from dress conventions of the nineteenth century. It was traditionally only worn for events after 6pm in the evening. It should generally not be worn before this although some weddings in the United States have started to state black tie as a dress-code. In Britain however, the costume is strictly reserved for evening events. In Scotland, many men choose to wear traditional Highland dress instead.
