Despite the ubiquity of camcorders, and the huge advances that have been made in picture quality, camcorders are still reliant on camcorder batteries with a limited lifespan. The lifespan of a battery isn’t set in stone however, and the way you use your camcorder can make a difference.
Firstly, the best safeguard against loss of power is to have a spare replacement battery. This way, when your battery does eventually lose power you can quickly replace it. Switching your camera off when not in use will obviously save some power. Also, rather than re-running what you’ve just filmed, no matter how awesome, watch it when you get home and you’ll save heaps of power.
As batteries get older their lifespan decreases. If you’ve had a battery for a long time, then you might want to replace it with a fresh new battery that offers maximum power. If the battery has been stored over long periods then it might lose its charge, so check and charge older batteries before you use them.
Different functions of your camera will be more power hungry than others. If you’re constantly zooming in, for example, then this will drain the battery. Keep your filming simple and no frills and your battery should last longer.
