If you’ve booked a holiday you’re probably thinking about sunning yourself on the beach or enjoying the sights once you arrive. However, before you can really focus on the trip you need to make sure you’ve got everything you need for your luggage. Making sure you have all the essentials you need in advance will make the last minute arrangements of your holiday far less stressful.
Being organized can save you a lot of time and stress in the long run and this post has been written with the aim of providing you with all the basic info you need for packing the essentials for your summer holiday. You can of course customize this list for other destinations, such as adding more warm clothes for a skiing trip, or any specialist equipment if you’re planning something out of the ordinary.
Clothes
When it comes to clothes, you obviously don’t want to pack too many but need to bring enough to make sure you’re comfortable getting through the week or two you are away.
You’ll always need to ensure you have enough underwear and socks to keep you fresh all week. It’s also sensible to pack t-shirts, smart shirts, shorts and trousers in case the weather takes a turn for the worse. Footwear will depend on what you want to do during your holiday. If it’s all about relaxing on the beach then settle for a pair of Havanas, the perfect beach-side flip-flop. If you plan to be trekking the countryside then hiking boots are an essential. Sunglasses and hats to keep you protected in the sun should also be on your list.
A light jacket is always recommended even if you’re going to a country that’s scorching hot. You never know when the weather might change and evenings are always a lot cooler than the day – so if you’re planning to go out at night this is an essential.
Toiletries
Keeping yourself feeling fresh goes beyond clothes so ensure you take all your daily-use toiletries including your toothbrush, shaving cream and razor. You can buy small travel-sized bottles of most things such as shower gel and shampoo so you don’t need to take any large bottles with you – especially good if you are only bringing hand-luggage on your flight.
Sunscreen should also be something you consider to ensure you don’t come back from your holiday looking like a lobster. Similarly, if you are on any prescription medication don’t forget to pack it or your holiday could be a lot less enjoyable than you’d hoped.
Essentials You Might Forget
It may sound near impossible but there are many essential items that people genuinely forget. Before anything else make sure you know exactly where your tickets are and the same for your driving license and passport. Make sure your camera is fully charged and ready to go too. With these basics you can’t go far wrong and are on your way to a fun yet organized holiday. Holly Waters is a travel writer from Bournemouth.
